Suzy Barnard was born in England, earned her BFA (Painting) in 1980 from Bristol Polytechnic and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1981. She obtained her MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1984. Still in the Bay Area, Suzy Barnard lives in Berkeley, and paints from her studio at Pier 70 in San Francisco, where her window overlooks the water, and the parade of huge cargo ships, changing light and weather provide endless material for investigations in paint.
Barnard has been exhibiting steadily in the San Francisco area since 1985. In addition to numerous private collections, her works can be found in the public collections of the City of San Francisco, the Wharton Business School West, and the City of Lafayette. Most recently, the Federal Maritime Commission commissioned Barnard to paint a piece for its Washington D.C. office in commemoration of its 50th anniversary.
